Written Statement


I took this photograph on campus at MSU.  In order to take this photograph, I had to "create" the scene.  I set some food out and had to be very patient to get just the right image that I wanted.  I wanted to show the entire squirrel in the photograph, but I liked the leaves and twigs that were on the ground around the squirrel as well.  Also, I liked how the squirrel was in focus and the background was blurry.  I chose portrait orientation for the image, in order to mimic the squirrel standing up.

Based on the comments from critique, I am not going to make any changes or improvements to this image.  Others agreed with my thoughts on the photograph and liked the blurry background.  I might use this image as a jumping-off point for a larger project or series, by photographing more squirrels or other animals in nature.
