In a world without photographs, other art forms (such as painting, drawing, sculpture as well as written art and poetry) would be used more to describe people, things, events, and places. Photographs are used all around us for marketing purposes, instructional purposes, and educational purposes. Photographs in magazines or on billboards are used to sell products or services, while photographs in instructions and textbooks give individuals a better understanding of the written words.

A photograph captures a specific moment in time. To me, photographs are a reminder of the way things are or were. Photographs can be of happy memories (such as baby and wedding photos) or of tragic/sad memories (such as photos of natural disasters). Photographs can be used as a way for individuals to not forget the past.
