Constructed Series

This is my constructed reality narrative series.  I wanted to capture the process of trying on new shoes for the first time, from opening the box to having both shoes on and looking at them to see if you like the way they look.  I wanted to capture these pictures from the perspective of the person trying them on.  I took the pictures inside with artificial lighting.  The class thought if I were to redo this series, that I should have them all in either portrait or landscape orientation and not change the orientation in the middle of the series.

This is my constructed reality constructed identity.  I took several pictures of my mom, both inside and outside, wearing a wig and without a wig.  This is a shot from her getting ready and putting a wig on.  It was taken inside with natural lighting coming in from a window.  I like this image as it shows the process and creation of a different identity.  Also, I like the angle that I took it from and how my mom's arm partially covers her face/identity.  The class agreed that this image was better than my first image from the earlier critique.  They suggested I could do a project or series in which I capture moments of her life and the steps through her illness/treatments.

This is my constructed reality narrative illusion.  I used my hands to brush my friend's teeth.  I wanted this difference to be noticeable, but at the same time, I wanted it to be subtle and not the focus of the picture.  Since I wanted the difference to be noticeable, I asked my black, male friend to help me.  In addition to taking photographs of me brushing his teeth, I took some of him putting chap-stick on me.  Both variations were difficult to capture.  I used my tripod for both variations, but I had to set the self timer, and then try to quickly get into position so that either I was hidden (with him shown) or he was hidden (with me shown).  I didn't want both of our arms or hands visible in any of the images.  Ten seconds is the longest self timer I can set on my camera, which sometimes didn't seem to be long enough.  The class thought I did a nice job capturing the illusion.

This is my constructed reality recreation.  I recreated an image that my mom had taken of me when I was a baby.  I used my niece and folded the blanket, so that it looked like her head was on the bear's body.  I took the picture inside in indoor lighting.  The class liked this constructed reality.
